If you’ve been in the custom door business long enough, you know the rhythm. Some projects are straightforward — a clean fiberglass entry door replacement, solid margins, minimal surprises. Those are your bread and butter.
And then… there are jobs like this one.
This lakefront property build was anything but standard. From the start, it was clear this wouldn’t be a “quick install.” But I took it on because it pushed us creatively and technically — and because it gave us the opportunity to be part of something truly special.
The project involved a large-scale custom front door installation with oversized fiberglass slabs, multipoint hardware, and architectural metalwork. There were delays, curveballs, and long hours — and yet, I’d do it again in a heartbeat. The general contractor had an insane level of precision (might’ve even rivaled mine 😅), and the client was a joy to work with.
Would I take projects like this every week? Nope. But a few a year? That’s where real growth lives — in the lessons, the craftsmanship, and the chance to step up our game.
And yes — once the install was wrapped and the final trim work dialed in, we celebrated with a quick dip in the lake. Definitely not part of the spec sheet, but 100% earned.
