In 2022, I had the pleasure of working on another exciting project with Intrinsic Design & Build (IDBG), led by designer Cheryl and general contractor Calvin. Our ongoing collaboration has been an incredible journey, and #Project68 was yet another success in our partnership. Working with designers and contractors like Cheryl and Calvin is one of the reasons I continue to grow and evolve as a craftsman.
Collaboration Built on Trust
About 70% of my projects come directly from homeowners, but I’ve been fortunate to work with talented design-and-build teams over the years. Cheryl and Calvin were among the first teams I partnered with regularly, starting about 4-5 years ago, and they’ve trusted me with several creative projects since.
This door installation was part of that journey. Cheryl’s creative design ideas always push me to think outside the box and try new things. For this project, we focused on a clean and elegant fiberglass door that blended design and function perfectly.
The Custom Fiberglass Door: Strength Meets Style
Fiberglass doors are an ideal choice for many projects because they combine durability, elegance, and low maintenance. For this installation, we worked with a design that complemented the home’s exterior while ensuring the door could withstand years of use and exposure to the elements. Fiberglass is known for its resistance to warping, cracking, and rotting, making it perfect for homeowners who want both style and performance.
The result was a beautifully crafted custom door with a finish that enhanced the home’s curb appeal while providing excellent security and insulation.
The Role of Collaboration and Innovation
What I enjoy most about working with Cheryl and Calvin is the balance between creative freedom and collaborative problem-solving. Cheryl is constantly coming up with ideas that push me beyond my comfort zone, and Calvin is my go-to resource for discussing technical construction details outside my area of expertise. Whether it’s chatting about door framing, waterproofing, or even brainstorming modifications for our F150 trucks, working with them is always a rewarding experience.
On this project, we worked together to ensure the door was not only aesthetically pleasing but also technically sound. The installation had to be flawless, from the fit and finish to the alignment and sealing. With Calvin’s attention to detail and Cheryl’s design vision, we created a door that perfectly fit the home’s architecture.
Reflecting on #Project68
This project reminded me how valuable long-term partnerships can be. Cheryl and Calvin’s trust over the years has allowed me to grow as a designer and experiment with new techniques. While this door wasn’t as experimental as some of our past projects, it demonstrated how effective teamwork and attention to detail can lead to exceptional results.
The fact that Cheryl and Calvin have continued to bring me in for their projects means a lot to me, and I’m always excited to see what they’ll throw my way next. Whether it’s a creative challenge or a technically demanding project, I know we’ll find a way to bring it to life.
Looking Ahead: More Projects, More Growth
#Project68 was another step in a journey filled with creative milestones, and I’m excited for what’s to come. Every project we complete together brings new challenges and opportunities to grow, whether through design innovation or problem-solving on-site.
Thank you, Cheryl and Calvin, for trusting me once again. I can’t wait for the next chapter in our collaboration and all the amazing projects we’ll create together.
