There are some combos that never go out of style—satin brass on black is absolutely one of them. This bold and elegant 8-foot double door we installed in Oakville last November is a great example of how timeless contrast, when paired with quality craftsmanship, creates something truly special.
The centerpiece of this door system is undoubtedly the custom metal insert—a design I’ve done a few times before, but this version had a twist. The goal was to match the metal detailing to the spectacular satin brass Emtek multipoint leverset, and that’s where things got a bit tricky (and fun!).
After some trial and error and going through a few different suppliers, I finally found gilding paste in the perfect brass finish. Then came the real challenge: hand-brushing the metal accents to bring out just the right tone and texture. It took some patience to get the look just right on the flat metal surfaces, but the end result speaks for itself.
This was definitely one of my favorite builds from late 2024. Every detail came together—from the custom metalwork and hand-applied finish to the sleek hardware—to create a door that feels modern, bold, and timeless all at once.
