After-Hours Perfection: Custom Steel Double Door with Ornate Metalwork

Some projects stick with you—not just because of how they look in the end, but because of how much of yourself you put into them. This custom steel double door with intricate metalwork, installed solo back in 2020, is one of those that I still look back on with pride (and maybe a little bit of muscle memory).

It was late November, one of those short days when the sun disappears too early and the real work kicks in after dark. I remember finishing this one well into the evening, relying on my Milwaukee floodlights to light up every corner of the door. And honestly, those lights do more than just illuminate—they reveal. Any flaw, any imperfection, stands out under that brightness. It’s the kind of environment that pushes you to be better, more precise, more dialed into the small things.

And it’s exactly that attention to detail that defines Lusso Design. The metal inserts in this door weren’t just mass-produced off-the-shelf pieces—they were custom-designed, CNC-cut, and finished with care, set behind textured privacy glass that dances beautifully with the light. The flowing scrollwork is bold and ornamental without being overbearing—balanced just right.

This project was also one of the last times I had to work solo until well past midnight. Back in 2021, that was more common. These days, I’m lucky to work with a small crew I’ve personally trained—people who share my passion for precision, quality, and doing things the right way. That shift has not only allowed us to grow but has also improved how efficiently we work without sacrificing the craftsmanship I built this business on.

Looking back now, I still love how this project came together. It’s a great reminder of where Lusso Design started, how far we’ve come, and the importance of building a team that carries your values forward. These days, I don’t have to install every door by myself at 10 p.m.—but I still bring the same care, creativity, and pride into every job we do.

Because craftsmanship isn’t about shortcuts. It’s about getting it right, whether it takes five hours or fifteen.
