A Custom Fiberglass Door That Almost Didn’t Happen

Sometimes, the best projects come with a great story, and this custom fiberglass door installation is no exception. It’s a perfect example of how a well-designed door, a fantastic client, and a near-miss misunderstanding all came together to create something truly special.

A Great Start with a Slight Misstep

This project began with a referral from a trusted industry friend. My client, G., reached out in mid-April to discuss a new entry door for her home. After exchanging a few emails to define the base concept, we scheduled a showroom meeting to go over the details in person. The meeting went perfectly—G. had a clear vision, a great eye for detail, and we both left with a solid plan in place. The door design was finalized, the details confirmed, and I sent over a summary email with the final configuration and pricing.

That’s when things took an unexpected turn. G. replied with a simple but important question—was my pricing 100% correct? Instead of just saying “Yes,” I launched into one of my usual rants about “value vs. price” and how I treat all my clients equally, no matter the size of their home or the brand of their car. It’s a philosophy I stand by, and in person, it probably would have made perfect sense. But in an email? It completely missed the mark.

Lesson Learned: Communication Matters

After reading G.’s response, I quickly realized my mistake. What should have been a straightforward confirmation turned into an unnecessary explanation that didn’t land the way I intended.

It was a good reminder that written communication can be tricky—tone and intent don’t always translate well through text. And in a world where much of the sales process happens over email, it’s easy to forget that sometimes a simple answer is the best answer.

Luckily, I called G. right away to clear things up. She appreciated the clarification, and we were able to move forward with the project. But for a moment, I genuinely thought I had ruined a project that I was really excited about. Lesson learned—sometimes, less is more.

The Door: A Custom Fiberglass Beauty

With the misunderstanding behind us, we got to work on creating a stunning custom fiberglass door that perfectly suited G.’s home.

Fiberglass doors are one of my favorite options for homeowners looking for durability, elegance, and minimal maintenance. They offer the rich look of wood but without the risk of warping, rotting, or fading. Unlike traditional wood doors, fiberglass can handle extreme weather conditions while maintaining its beauty for years.

For this project, we focused on clean, modern lines, a refined finish, and high-quality materials to match G.’s vision. The result? A gorgeous entry door that enhances curb appeal, provides excellent insulation, and will stand the test of time.

Looking Back: A Project Worth the Effort

This experience was a valuable reminder of why clear and direct communication is key. While email has become an essential part of my process, I won’t make the same mistake twice—sometimes, a simple phone call is the best way to ensure clarity.

In the end, G. was thrilled with her new door, and I was grateful that we were able to move past the initial hiccup. The project turned out to be one of my favorites—not just because of the finished product but because of the journey it took to get there.

To all my future clients—if you ever have a question, just call! I promise to keep my rants to a minimum… at least over email 🙂
